Beginners Jewellery
Over 7 weeks, you’ll learn fundamental metalworking techniques like cutting, shaping, and soldering, as well as ring sizing, texturing, and polishing. No experience is needed—just bring your imagination, and we’ll guide you through creating custom rings and bangles from copper or silver.
Whether you’re looking to craft a special gift, develop a new hobby, or explore your creative side, this class offers the perfect introduction to the art of handmade jewellery in a supportive and inspiring environment.
What You’ll Learn:

Course Structure:
Week 1 – Introduction & safety + cutting & shaping your first ring
Week 2 – Soldering & forming techniques for rings
Week 3 – Creating a bangle using forming and shaping methods
Week 4 – Texturing & surface treatments for unique finishes
Week 5 – Polishing & patination techniques to refine your designs
Week 6-7 – Complete your creations & explore additional techniques
By the final week, you’ll have beautiful, handcrafted jewellery to wear, gift, or showcase!

About Your Tutor:
Nikkie is an award-winning contemporary jeweller with over 20 years of experience. Her work is inspired by the organic forms of Art Nouveau and the rigid, structured aesthetics of industrial and mechanical objects. Passionate about craftsmanship and creativity, Nikkie is dedicated to helping students discover the art of jewellery making, no matter their skill level.
What Do I Need to Bring?
- Pen & paper – for sketching and taking notes
- Closed-toe shoes & hair tied back – for safety in the workshop
- Basic design ideas – bring any inspiration for your jewellery
What Will Be Provided?
- Packet of saw blades
- Copper for one ring and one bangle
- Additional silver or copper available for purchase if needed
When is this course?
This course will run on Thursday Evenings from May 8th to June 19th from 6 to 9PM
If you wish to cancel, email us at least 14 clear days before your class begins. You'll receive a full refund less an admin fee of $20 via the same payment method (e.g., credit card or Afterpay) if you cancel within this timeframe.
Unfortunately, refunds aren't available for cancellations with less than 14 days' notice, nor for missed classes within a series.

This class will be held on campus at The Learning Connexion located at 182 Eastern Hutt Road, Lower Hutt. Specific details of where on campus your class will be held will be sent to you the week prior to the commencement of your class
