Learn to weave, knot, and craft beautiful objects using twigs, bark, feathers, leaves, rocks, and plant fibres. Through playful experimentation, you’ll gain skills in natural cordage-making, simple weaving, and sustainable art practices. Let the land guide your creativity as you create unique, organic artworks that celebrate the beauty of natural materials

What You Will Learn

Session Breakdown:

Day 1:

  1. Introduction to earth-based artmaking and gathering natural materials.
  2. Learning cordage-making techniques from plant fibres.
  3. Basic weaving and knotting skills to create intricate textures and forms.

Day 2:

  • Designing and assembling your own nature-inspired creations.
  • Experimenting with natural pigments, textures, and layering techniques.
  • Exploring ways to integrate these skills into your ongoing art practice.

With years of experience in working with organic materials, Birgit’s work bridges the connection between the natural world and artistic expression. She is passionate about sharing traditional techniques and helping others discover the endless creative possibilities offered by the environment.

Base materials will be provided, but you’ll receive a list of suggested natural items to bring in your confirmation class email, allowing you to explore even more creative possibilities. Please make sure you don't unsubscribe or you won't receive these details.

What will be provided?

All tools and a range of found natural materials plus paper/string/wire/threads

Can anyone do this class?
Yes! This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and experienced artists alike. No prior art experience is necessary—just a love for creativity and nature!

 

If you wish to cancel, email us at least 14 clear days before your class begins. You'll receive a full refund less an admin fee of $20 via the same payment method (e.g., credit card or Afterpay) if you cancel within this timeframe.

This class will be held on campus at The Learning Connexion located at 182 Eastern Hutt Road, Lower Hutt. Specific details of where on campus your class will be held will be sent to you the week prior to the commencement of your class
