Designed for beginners, this 7-week course will guide you through essential techniques, from hand stitching and machine piecing to appliqué and quilting methods like sashiko and trapunto. Whether you want to make a quilt, wall hanging, tote bag, or another textile project, you’ll receive expert guidance in a friendly, supportive environment !
Learn at your own pace, explore different styles, and gain confidence in creating a unique piece that reflects your creativity. You don’t need to be a sewer or own a sewing machine—this class is about learning, experimenting, and having fun with fabric.
What You’ll Learn:

What You’ll Create:
Over 7 weeks, you’ll complete at least one quilt block per class, working towards a finished piece of your choice. Whether it’s a quilt, tote bag, or wall hanging, you’ll walk away with new skills and a personal textile creation to be proud of.

What If I have no experience?
This class is suitable for absolute beginners as well as for more experienced patchwork and quilting creatives looking to learn new skills from an experienced tutor
About Your Tutor:
Lisa is a lifelong maker with a background in textile design and over 30 years of quilting experience. Originally trained as a nurse, she made the leap into the creative world, earning a diploma in textile design and working as a technical demonstrator at Massey University. Passionate about sharing her love for quilting, Lisa creates a fun, stress-free environment where students can learn, experiment, and discover the joy of patchwork.
What Do I Need to Bring:
- An idea of what you want to make (quilt, tote bag, wall hanging, etc.)
- Pre-washed and ironed fabric scraps
- Basic sewing kit (needles, thread, pins, scissors, ruler, etc.)
- Optional: Sewing machine, rotary cutter, cutting mat
A summary of what you will need week by week specifically will be provided in class, and guidance will be given on sourcing fabrics and supplies if needed.
When is the Course?
This course will run on Tuesday Evenings from May 6th - June 17th from 6-9pm
If you wish to cancel, email us at least 14 clear days before your class begins. You'll receive a full refund less an admin fee of $20 via the same payment method (e.g., credit card or Afterpay) if you cancel within this timeframe.
Unfortunately, refunds aren't available for cancellations with less than 14 days' notice, nor for missed classes within a series.

This class will be held on campus at The Learning Connexion located at 182 Eastern Hutt Road, Lower Hutt. Specific details of where on campus your class will be held will be sent to you the week prior to the commencement of your class
