This course will run on Thursday Evenings from 23rd October to 4th December from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Bring along your camera and discover the fundamentals of photography in this snap happy, beginner-friendly evening class!
Learn how to take control of your camera and build a solid foundation in photography. You’ll explore the essentials of camera settings such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and discover how to use them creatively to capture the images you want.
Alongside technical skills, you’ll be introduced to the basics of editing so you can refine your photographs and present them at their best. The course also covers simple ways to communicate with clients and approach small projects, giving you the confidence to share your work professionally.
What You'll Learn:
Week 1: Camera Settings (e.g. shutter speed, aperture, ISO and white balance)
Week 2: Camera settings in even more depth
Week 3: Explore lenses and flashes
Week 4: Working with light, shade, shadows and composition
Week 5: Communication (e.g. posing, prep and direction)
Week 6: Editing (e.g cropping, framing, movement and focal points)
Week 7: Even more editing (e.g. presets and colour balancing)

Meet Your Tutor: Bianca Mar’e-Fletcher
Bianca Mar’e has been a professional photographer and editor for over 13 years. After graduating with a Diploma in Photographic Imaging, she built her career in both New Zealand and Australia, specialising in people-focused photography including families, weddings, maternity, events and portraiture. Bianca has exhibited her travel photography, received a Silver NZIPP award, and her fashion work has been featured in British Vogue (January and March 2025). She now runs her own photography business in Wellington and is passionate about sharing her love of photography with others.

Bianca will bring a few spare cameras if they are needed, as well as some props!
If you wish to cancel, email us at least 14 clear days before your class begins. You'll receive a full refund less an admin fee of $20 via the same payment method (e.g., credit card or Afterpay) if you cancel within this timeframe.
Unfortunately, refunds aren't available for cancellations with less than 14 days' notice, nor for missed classes within a series.

This class will be held on campus at The Learning Connexion located at 182 Eastern Hutt Road, Lower Hutt. Specific details of where on campus your class will be held will be sent to you the week prior to the commencement of your class
