This two-day workshop is an invitation to slow down, step outside, and see the natural world through a creative lens. You'll explore what our whenua/our land has to offer, learn a range of transferable making techniques, and leave with a series of small, playful objects.

The goal of this workshop is to (re) connect with te taiao/nature that is around us and finding your creative flow, so you will be confident experimenting further based on the learnings in this workshop.

What You'll Learn:

You will learn some basic techniques such as making cordage (string) from paper plant fibres, basic hand weaving and whipping. Birgit will talk about harvesting, preparing and storing of natural materials.

Part of the workshop is a foraging walk around the campus, seeing the range of possibilities our whenua/our land has to offer: twigs, leaves, shells, feathers, rocks, bark are just a few.

This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners as well as for creatives who want to explore a new field, adding some basic but versatile techniques to their basket of knowledge.
