Creating a sense of light in painting is a voyage of discovery. Effective lighting not only enhances the believability of a composition but also adds emotional depth and resonance.

In this introductory weekend workshop, we'll explore the fundamentals of painting light and provide a foundation for your ongoing artistic journey. Through practical, hands-on exercises, we'll examine how artists such as Turner, Vermeer and Fragonard captured and interpreted light, before turning our attention to the greatest teacher of all - light in the natural world. You'll learn practical techniques for observing and painting light with greater confidence, leaving with a clear direction for continuing to develop this essential aspect of your art practice.

“Art is the illusion by which we understand reality” - Cecil Collins
