Giant Stemmed Crepe Poppies

Create something extraordinary — a giant crepe paper poppy that’s as elegant as it is expressive.

In this immersive workshop, you’ll transform Italian crepe paper into a spectacular oversized poppy, complete with a sculptural centre, ruffled petals and an elegant stem.

Working step by step, you’ll explore the details that give the poppy its distinctive character. You’ll begin by constructing its intricate layered centre before learning how to cut, curl and shape individual petals. You’ll then bring the elements together to create your flower and assemble it onto a prepared stem, ready to take home and display.

The poppy introduces a range of techniques in shaping, curling and structure, making this a satisfying next step for anyone who has already experimented with crepe paper — while still being completely achievable for an adventurous beginner.

It’s a workshop that combines calm, focused making with the joy of creating something on a wonderfully unexpected scale.

What You'll Learn:

By participating in this workshop, learners will:

Each participant will leave the workshop with:

• One completed giant crepe paper poppy.
• A prepared stem assembled with your flower.
• Practical experience in a range of paper-sculpting and flower-making techniques.
• The skills and confidence to continue experimenting with crepe paper at home. 
  

Meet Your Tutor:

Becs Mackie is an artist, educator and owner of Ventana Art Space in Martinborough. With over six years’ experience delivering hands-on creative workshops, Becs specialises in paper floristry, particularly large-scale crepe paper flowers and sculptural floral forms.

Her teaching combines practical, accessible techniques with an emphasis on experimentation, creativity and process. Becs is passionate about making art approachable for people at all skill levels, creating workshops where participants can learn new techniques while developing confidence in their own creative practice.

Known for her warm, encouraging teaching style, Becs brings a relaxed and engaging approach to visiting workshops, with a strong focus on creating an enjoyable and inclusive learning environment.

What to Bring:

Just bring yourself and come ready to create. No previous paper-crafting experience is required.

You’ll be able to select from a range of colour options for your poppy.

What Will Be Provided:

Everything you need to create your giant wallflower will be provided, including:

• 180gsm Italian crepe paper
• Tools and equipment
• Flower templates
• A prepared stem for your flower
• All additional materials required to construct and finish your poppy 
  

Can Anyone Do This Class?

Yes! As stated above, no previous paper-crafting experience is required. This workshop is suitable for all levels, and absolutely beginner-friendly. If you love being creative, you’ll fit right in.
