Create a flower twice the size of your head — and discover a creative skill you didn’t know you had.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll transform beautiful Italian crepe paper into a voluminous, oversized flower designed to make a statement on any wall.

Working step by step, you’ll choose your colour palette before learning how to cut, curl and shape individual petals by hand. You’ll then bring the different elements together, building your flower layer by layer and finishing it ready to display at home.

There’s something wonderfully immersive about working at this scale. The repetitive process of shaping petals can be both meditative and satisfying, while the finished result is bold, joyful and surprisingly achievable.

No previous experience is needed. Come ready to experiment, work with your hands and make something beautiful.

What You'll Learn:

By participating in this workshop, learners will:

• Discover the creative possibilities of working with Italian crepe paper.
• Learn how to use templates to cut individual flower components.
• Explore techniques for curling, stretching and shaping crepe paper to create sculptural form.
• Learn how individual petals can be assembled to create a large-scale flower.
• Experiment with colour and composition to give your flower its own character.
• Learn how to finish your flower so it is ready to hang and display. 

What You'll Create:

Each participant will leave the workshop with:

• One completed giant crepe paper wallflower.
• Practical experience in the techniques used to create oversized paper flowers.
• The skills and confidence to continue experimenting with paper flower-making at home. 

Meet Your Tutor:

Becs Mackie is an artist, educator and owner of Ventana Art Space in Martinborough. With over six years’ experience delivering hands-on creative workshops, Becs specialises in paper floristry, particularly large-scale crepe paper flowers and sculptural floral forms.

Her teaching combines practical, accessible techniques with an emphasis on experimentation, creativity and process. Becs is passionate about making art approachable for people at all skill levels, creating workshops where participants can learn new techniques while developing confidence in their own creative practice.

Known for her warm, encouraging teaching style, Becs brings a relaxed and engaging approach to visiting workshops, with a strong focus on creating an enjoyable and inclusive learning environment.

Just bring yourself and come ready to create. No previous paper-crafting experience is required.

You’ll be able to select from a range of colour options for your flower.

What Will Be Provided:

Everything you need to create your giant wallflower will be provided, including:

• 180gsm Italian crepe paper
• Tools and equipment
• Flower templates
• All additional materials required to construct and finish your flower
  

Can Anyone Do This Class?

Yes! As stated above, no previous paper-crafting experience is required. This workshop is suitable for all levels, and absolutely beginner-friendly. If you love being creative, you’ll fit right in.
